The Bradford Sullivan Counties Chapter of the American Red Cross was able to purchase new CPR manikins, thanks to donations from two companies in our area. 

 

Tennessee Gas Pipeline Company donated $1,222.34 and Talisman Energy USA Inc. donated $500.00 which allowed the chapter to purchase two adult manikins, 2 child and 2 infant manikins.  These new manikins will replace some of the equipment that needs to be updated due to their many years of use.  We would like to purchase additional manikins this year so all of our older training equipment is replaced.  The average cost of this type of manikin is $290.00 each.  If you would like to make a donation to help with this effort, or to help the chapter maintain its level of support in our community please mail your contribution to 421 Main Street, Towanda, PA  18848

 

The manikins have a removable face piece that allows each participant to have their own clean face to practice the rescue breaths.  The size and proportion of the manikins is based on the size of an adult male, a 3 year old child and a newborn infant.  Participants learn the steps needed to check the scene for safety, check the victim for signs of life, call for help, and how to perform CPR.

 

The most effective way to learn first aid and CPR/AED is to participate in hands-on training courses taught by a certified Red Cross instructor.  While quick-overview videos and courses help you to become familiar with safety training; attending certification courses under the supervision of a qualified instructor is the best way to obtain the skills and confidence needed to successfully perform first aid and CPR/AED.  And, in order to remain confident and keep skills current, it is recommended that you attend refresher courses and be re-certified yearly.
